Celebrating numbers at MDS Monday!

I decided to use this awesome photo of my son that his daycare provider took of him. It is a rare 'quiet' moment in Jack's life, so I wanted to make the page quiet and calm as well.

Museum of Science & Tech for MDS Monday!

Long time no blog! I was having some computer issues, which have now been resolved. I'm in the process of updating as much as I can now! This week is 'getting back on track' week :)

This week at MDS Monday, Jeanna is keeping us playful with her first sketch as part of the DT! It's a super fun one.

I had a rare day off with my littlest little boy back in September and we went to the Museum of Science & Technology here in Ottawa. A week later, the museum was closed 'indefinitely' due to mould (sad day for Ottawa!), so we were super excited to have gotten in one last time.

Jack's favourite part was the cars, and the 'circuit' maze... and the trains... and the snowmobile ride... and.... :)

Designer Templates for MDS Monday!

This week at MDS Monday Holly has us using a pre-made template or designer page... but challenges us to change it up a bit!

I didn't stray too far from the original, because I loved it and the colours of the papers. Probably why I chose it in the first place :) I did, however, add a few extra embellishments and changed the 'family' to 'brothers'.

This was from a fun day out with their cousin... we played in the water, checked out some frogs and crab legs and all sorts of 'by the water' type creatures.

My Grandparents

This week at MDS Monday Tami is hosting and she has a wonderful sketch and challenge for us. We are to use a vintage photo and create a vintage-feeling page.

I chose a picture of my grandparents that I just love. It's such a simple and candid moment, but so beautiful. My grandpa is standing on a large tree stump and giving my grandma a hand to stand with him. The funny thing is, I assume they were getting up there to get their photo taken together, but I've never seen the "posed" pic! It's OK though, this one is just as special (if not moreso)

Digital Project Life for MDS Monday!

This week at MDS Monday, Heidi has us getting creative with Project Life. I had a lot of fun with the first challenge we did like this, and I was happy to try it again.

I did a two-page layout this week for our trip to Merickville. It was just a short day trip to a small town about an hour from us, but it was so much fun!

When we asked Jacks what his favourite part of the day was, he said watching the boats go through the locks. When we asked Hunter, he said eating Ice Cream, haha. Either way, it was a great day and I still have more pictures that I haven't included here!

Brothers for MDS Monday!

This week at MDS Monday Joan has a great sketch for us. It came just in time, as we had a quick photo session with our boys this past weekend and I needed something perfect for a starting point.

I used mostly the Seriously Teen kit for this page. I loved the colours and fun elements. Once I finished, I found that the page felt a bit lopsided, so instead of a full white background, I added a layer of DSP and then another layer of White with a ripped edge. Very happy with how it turned out!

Here are some of the other photos from the session. For these ones, I plan to do a page that is a little more 'structured'. The ones with the brick background seemed to call for a more grunge-y feel!

Diggin' around for MDS Monday!

Christmas in July for MDS Monday!

This week at MDS Monday, Beth is our hostess and has a fun little trick to teach us! She wants us to use the sketch and to group some photo boxes together and fill with 1 image. After that, change all but one of the boxes to greyscale, and then nudge the coloured box out to draw attention to it.

I absolutely loved the sketch and had about a billion ideas... I finally settled on this one. I kept trying to find the 'perfect' sketch for this photo... and I think this is it :)

Family Tree for MDS Monday!

This week at MDS Monday Heidi has a great sketch for us, and a challenge to incorporate a family tree.

I wanted to keep my tree really 'simple'. Someday, when I make my kiddos a book about their family history, I will have more details about each member of the family, but for now I wanted only their first names.

Since they share a room, I thought it would be nice to have a page for them to share as well. Something they can put up in their room and have together.

I used the Sweetly Nested template for this page, but made the tree a little smaller and imported it into a 12x12 layout instead of 8.5x11.

Cupcakes for MDS Monday!

Better late than never?... Eeek... Realize that I had missed scheduling my MDS Monday project this week. So, here it is - Holly had a great sketch!:

I made these cupcakes just for fun. I wanted to see how hard it was to fill a cupcake with something yummy (in this case, homemade raspberry filling). Turns out, it's easy, easy, easy!! I thought they were too pretty not to scrap. And they tasted delicious too!

Birthday fun for MDS Monday

This week at MDS Monday, Joan is taking us 'round and 'round! So many fun circles.

I very rarely do scrapbook pages with myself in them, so I thought it was about time. This page is from my birthday this year in January, which I celebrated with my Mother-in-Law. I realized after I had finished the page that I should probably update the text to say "Our birthdays are only 4 days apart" instead of "We are 4 days apart"... ;)

My birthday is on the 4th and my MIL is the 8th, so we always celebrate together.

Furniture Factory History for MDS Monday!

This week at MDS Monday, Holly has a great scrap layout for us.

I did a different type of project this week. I recently went to visit my mom who moved to a new city. One I've been to before, but have never explored and don't know much about. While I was waiting at the train station to go home, I saw this really old factory across the tracks. Fortunately, the name of the factory was still printing on the side of the building, so I could do some digging.

I did most of this page while I was on the train, before I even got home! Isn't technology fun? :)

I thought this would be the perfect page for the Downtown Grunge kit. I love this kit!

For the background, I used some fot he Downtown Grunge DSP, then added two separate overlays - one was the grunge look and the other was the grid. I felt it gave it a really 'old school' feel, and perfect for the subject.

This is why I love traveling by train!! You don't get to see all this fun stuff waiting in an airport terminal :)

Sweet Baby for MDS Monday

This week at MDS Monday, Tami has an absolutely fabulous card sketch and the added challenge of adding some gold embellishments.

I started with the stars and it morphed quickly from there. My gold accents were the sequins (who can resist the sequins these days!) and a sweet little gold brad from the Antique Brads download.

Happy Easter for MDS Monday!

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter. We enjoyed so many get-togethers this weekend; from friends visiting from out of town, to brunches and dinners and breakfast... All around a wonderful, feel-good weekend.

Another thing that made this weekend so remarkable was that I was able to finally score a fab picture of  our boys together! This is like a one-in-a-million opportunity right here. Hunter was kind enough to bribe JackJack with some chocolate to get him to cooperate :) Such a smart fella.

I had a page already started (and almost finished!) for this week's MDS Monday challenge, but when I snapped this photo of the gents, I knew I had to scrap it all (haha, pun totally intended!) and start fresh.

For my card, I rotated the layout of the card but kept the layout of the sketch. These are small note cards, suitable for putting in orders as as thank you notes for hostesses!

Lots of Love for MDS Monday

Good morning! It's time for a brand new MDS Monday challenge. Holly has a great card sketch for us this week with the added challenge of changing the colour of some DSP.

I decided to make a card for my anniversary (which isn't for awhile, but it will give me some time to procrastinate on printing! haha).

The background layer is DSP with a Very Vanilla square punch overtop. Then I pulled the opacity down a bit to around 85%. I applied an overlay, but didn't resize from the 12x12 size, just aligned it so the larger image would take up most of the background. I dropped the opacity on that as well.

I recoloured some of the Chantilly trim and layered on some of my favourite papers.

I... am... Iron Man!

Good morning!

This week at MDS Monday Tami has a great sketch and challenge for us! We're using film strips (so fun!) and she even has a video tutorial to help you along. Awhile back I used a film strip theme to do a page for my sons birthday - it was much easier this time around for some reason ;)

Our kids like to get dressed up in costumes. We have a wide variety of super heroes and movie characters for them to choose from, but Jackson always picks Iron Man. One day, he was all dressed up with the mask on and we said "Oh no! It's Iron Man", and he lifted up the mask with a big cheeky smile and said "NO! It's JackJack".
