Colour Me Playful!

Good morning - I'm trying to catch up on a few blog posts from the last week. What a busy one! We're redoing our floors at home and we're in 'go-mode' trying to get everything ready!

This week at Colour Me...! we are using Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight, Basic Black and Gold. Fun, eh??

Since the design team works ahead creating our projects, I'd been looking forward to this colour combo for weeks! But then, when I sat down to make it, my mojo and I got in a huge argument and it stormed off.. I will definitely be revisiting these colours when we're on speaking terms again!

Background mania at The Friday Mashup!

This week at The Friday Mashup Sara is our host and asking us to use a background stamp and include a 3D element on your card. OK!

I used the Chevron background stamp and white craft ink to do the background. I considered embossing it, but I wanted it to have a more 'sketched' look... more like the chalkboard technique. The "Happy" panel is a mini note card from the Project Life kit, Everyday Adventure Card Collection. I outlined around the panel with the white gel pen to add a little extra and bring the white in from the background stamp.

Last but not least, I added a few 3D stars. These are made from the Stars Framelit dies. To make them 3D, you just fold them in half at each point (so, 5 times). Then you squish in the in-between parts and pop up the points.

Subtle hello for Colour Me...!

This week at Colour Me...! we are going subtle and using Lost Lagoon, Smoky Slate and Island Indigo.

I can't seem to get enough of the Tap, Tap, Tap set from the new catty, so I whipped it out again and paired it with the fun new photopolymer set Draw the Line.

I cut out a piece of Whisper White and stamped the lines from the Tap Tap Tap set. I intentionally made them overlap and crooked so it didn't look so misaligned when I punched out the spirals with the new (again) Spiral Border punch.

The typewriter was first stamped in Island Indigo, and then I stamped over it again with Basic Black. It is shifted ever-so-slightly so that the blue is a sort of shadow behind the black. I love the way it turned out. 

A few candy dots later, we have a happy hello!

Christmas in July for MDS Monday!

This week at MDS Monday, Beth is our hostess and has a fun little trick to teach us! She wants us to use the sketch and to group some photo boxes together and fill with 1 image. After that, change all but one of the boxes to greyscale, and then nudge the coloured box out to draw attention to it.

I absolutely loved the sketch and had about a billion ideas... I finally settled on this one. I kept trying to find the 'perfect' sketch for this photo... and I think this is it :)

Summer lovin' at The Friday Mashup!

Woohoo! It's Friday... And a vacation-day-Friday too. Those are the best :)

This week at The Friday Mashup, Lisa has a fun challenge for us to use some new In Colours and create a summer project!!

I went very symbolic and less literal this week. Instead of doing a summer scene, I took my favourite parts of summer and represented them: Blue skies (polka dot background), bright sun (Kinda Eclectic sunburst stamp) and green leaves (Kinda Eclectic leaves stamps).

Striking Love for Colour Me...!

This week at Colour Me...! we are rocking a striking colour combo of Soft Sky and Elegant Eggplant!

I finally got my hands on the super sweet Little Letters Thinlit Dies and just had to use them!

I started out with cutting 1/4" strips from Soft Sky and Elegant Eggplant cardstock and alternating them on an angle on a small panel. I cut out the word "love" using the new thinlits and the magnetic plate for the Big Shot (this saves the day for projects like this!) and tucked that panel in behind. 

The cloud was stamped from the new hostess set Hello Love.

Family Tree for MDS Monday!

This week at MDS Monday Heidi has a great sketch for us, and a challenge to incorporate a family tree.

I wanted to keep my tree really 'simple'. Someday, when I make my kiddos a book about their family history, I will have more details about each member of the family, but for now I wanted only their first names.

Since they share a room, I thought it would be nice to have a page for them to share as well. Something they can put up in their room and have together.

I used the Sweetly Nested template for this page, but made the tree a little smaller and imported it into a 12x12 layout instead of 8.5x11.

Cupcakes for MDS Monday!

Better late than never?... Eeek... Realize that I had missed scheduling my MDS Monday project this week. So, here it is - Holly had a great sketch!:

I made these cupcakes just for fun. I wanted to see how hard it was to fill a cupcake with something yummy (in this case, homemade raspberry filling). Turns out, it's easy, easy, easy!! I thought they were too pretty not to scrap. And they tasted delicious too!

Watercolour Wash for The Friday Mashup!

This week at The Friday Mashup Heidi has a watercolour wash challenge for us, with the option to mash it up with a clean-and-simple design.

I went with the new Today & Everyday stamp set which is absolutely perfect for colouring. So far, I've coloured with Blender Pens, Blendabilities and Aqua Painters, and it's a joy every time!

Monochromatic week at Colour Me...!

Good morning!

Today is the first day with the new Design Team at Colour Me...! We're starting the month off, as always, with a monochromatic challenge. One of my favourites :) This week we're going with Blackberry Bliss.

I made this card for my niece's 16th birthday. I had originally wanted to make her a cake similar to this cake, but I was smart and realized my own limitation as a cake decorator and just transferred the idea to a card instead.
