More Sale-A-Bration!

Hello, and happy Thursday to all!

It's been a really busy week around here, but I had to take a quick minute to post for the Color Throwdown challenge. They have some gorgeous colours to work with this week, and I'm super excited because one of them I have never (that's right, never!) worked with before... Believe it or not, despite my love of anything pink, Rose Red has not been touched up until now.

Gotta say, it might be a new favourite :P

This card is for my aunt. She moved to Bulgaria in the summer and has opened up her own studio (hair salon) in Sofia. I wanted to send her some pictures of the boys, since she didn't get the chance to meet Jackson before she left, and to let her know that we are thinking about her.

Thinking of You
  (CTD176)

These are the colours I was working with. Yum, eh?

Materials used in this card:
Cardstock: Crumb Cake, Rose Red, Whisper White
Stamps: Fresh Vintage (SAB), Curly Cute
Inks: Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip, Pool Party
Embellishments:  SAB brads, Pool Party ruffled ribbon
Tools: Paper cutter... a lot!! Postage Stamp punch, corner rounder, Boho Blossoms punch

As a little bonus, this is the card I made for last week's Color Throwdown challenge that I accidentally missed the deadline for :P

Enjoy your day, and thanks for stopping by!

Until next time - Happy stamping :)

So, with all that excitement, are you ready to see one of the fantastic Sale-A-Bration stamps sets in action? This scrapbook page features the Fresh Vintage stamp set, as well as a lot of paper-piercing ;)

This is very unlike me - I've waited until the last minute to play along with the Friday Mashup! I've been thinking about it every day, wondering what I wanted to do. Finally, it dawned on me. Literally, one of those lightbulb moments.

Here's the challenge:
  1. Make a project using "Paper Piercing".
  2. Or Make a project using the colors "Blushing Bride, Riding Hood Red & Early Espresso".
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a project with the "Color Combo & Paper Piercing".

I used to be into embroidery a little... and by "into" I mean that I bought a few books, some floss and have a couple half-finished projects laying around. It's too bad, because it's an incredibly soothing hobby. Only problem is, you really don't want to leave something like that laying around with two kiddos in the house :P

When I saw the paper-piercing portion of the Friday Mashup challenge, it brought me back to my embroidery days, and one of my favourite stitches - the French Knot :) I decided to use the Fresh Vintage stamp set for my paper-piercing portion (as it already has a lot of 'dots' to follow!), and add some French Knots for a little bit of fancy.

How awesome are these girls?!

Iris Fold: Part deux

Hi :)

I hope you all don't mind - but I'd like to toot my horn again... Yesterday I found out that I was named a Perfect Princess at the Freshly Made Sketch challenge (thank you, Jen!). SO thrilled. I love their sketches, and I love the styles of the design team. I am always so inspired by their clean and beautiful projects!

This week, I couldn't wait to get started on my card with the latest sketch :) In my last post, I mentioned that I tried a new technique - the Iris Folding technique. Unfortunately, I wasn't quite happy with the results of that one... So, for this sketch challenge, I wanted to have a second go at it.

I decided to use the colours from ColourQ challenge (because they are SO gorgeous), and the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.

Here is what I came up with. I have to say, I much prefer this attempt over the last one. I'm a big fan of techniques that let me play with as much designer paper as possible (like that good ol' Herringbone technique I keep using, hehe).

Hello
(FMS17, CQC120)

Hope you enjoyed this version of the iris fold :)

Matierals used for this card:
Cardstock: Island Indigo, Wisteria Wonder, Whisper White
Paper: Pocketful of Posies, Flirtatious, Twitterpated, Regals DSP
Stamps: Triple Treat Flower, Elementary Elegance
Ink: Island Indigo, Rich Razzleberry
Embellishments: Wisteria Wonder ruffled ribbon
Tools: Fancy Flower punch, 1/2" circle punch, Dotted Scallop Border punch,

Until next time - Happy stamping :)

PPA Pick and a new challenge!

Some exciting news this morning! My entry into the Pals Paper Arts challenge was selected as one of the PPA Picks! I'm very honoured to have been one of the three selected winners :)

I'm looking forward to taking part in the sketch challenge, which will be revealed on Thursday. Why don't you play along too!

In other news, I tried my hand a few "new" things that I'd like to share. I wanted to participate in the SUO Challenge (Stampin' Up! Only), and they urged us to use a technique that is either new, or one that you seldom use. I decided to do both!

The new technique is the Iris Folding technique, which I've had my 'eye' (hahaha...) on for quite some time. There are many great tutorials on youtube, like this one, and this one. This is another technique borrowed from quilting.  Now, I have to admit, I made a few mistakes and I'm not 100% happy with the final product, but I think it was a good first go at it. I think the next time I try it, I'll use a more basic shape... using the "H" and "J" leave little room for the 'shutter' pattern to be visible.

The second 'technique' isn't so much a technique, but it's still something I do very little of - scrapbooking. I really wanted to get this picture of Hunter and Jackson with Santa someplace so I could bring it out each year - I chose to do it 8 x 10 to fit a nice frame I already had laying around! In the photo, Hunter is 3 and Jackson is 3 months :)

Materials used:
Cardstock:  Marina Mist, Whisper White, Old Olive, Riding Hood Red, Early Espresso
Paper: Letters to Santa DSP
Stamps: Winter Post, Petite Pairs
Inks: Early Espresso, Riding Hood Red
Embellishments: Old Olive grosgrain ribbon
Tools: Dotted Scallop Border punch, Decorative Label punch, Top Note die, Curly Label punch, Postage Stamp punch, Big Shot, 3/16" Corner Round punch

Can't Stamp the Rain facebook page is only 22 fans from having a draw! Go on over and "like" it to be entered :)

Until next time - Happy Stamping!

Oh, how time flies!

Today, my baby is 4 months old. I thought time went by quickly with the first kiddo, but if it's possible, it seems as it's going even quicker! Now I'm not just watching one beautiful boy grow up, I'm watching two, and I can't keep up.

My boys when Jackson was only a couple weeks old.

Let's move on before I become weepy ;)

If there is one type of card I always seem to be in need of, it's thank you cards. And I know of a bunch of others who travel in the same boat I do.

This week at the Friday Mashup, they challenged us to make a thank you card, or make a card using designer series paper, or mash it up and make a thank you card with designer series paper!

I really love the Pocketful of Posies DSP. There are sheets like this one, that have large, bold prints on them that can be used as stand-alone pieces, but it also includes perfectly coordinating 'overall' patterns (like the small section used on the bottom). have a look-see:

Sending Many Thanks

I've been looking for the perfect occasion to use this section of the DSP, and I think I found it! Paired with the oh-so-awesome pleated ribbon from the Occasions Mini, I think it's a great way to make use of a very simple layout.

The sentiment is actually a layer behind the rest of the card! First, I punched out a 1 3/8" circle from Rich Razzleberry, then I centred and punched the scallop circle punch over it to make that small frame. After I layered this onto the DSP, I then re-punched the 1 3/8" circle to make a window for the sentiment in behind :)

Materials used for this card:
Cardstock: Rich Razzleberry, Whisper White
Paper: Pocketful of Posies
Stamps: Petite Pairs
Inks: Baja Breeze
Embellishments: Baja Breeze Pleated Ribbon
Tools: Scallop Circle, 1 3/8" Circle Punch,

I'm going to leave you with this little gem!! Go ahead, click it. You won't be disappointed! :)

Until next time - Happy stamping!

It's another Freshly Made Sketch!

Hello! :)

Sketch challenges are one of my favourites. I have a hard time relinquishing control when it comes to colour, but I love the inspiration and motivation when I have a sketch to work with!

This week's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches inspired me so much I made three cards with it, but I'm only sharing one... for now ;)

Get Well Soon

 (FMS17)

Materials used in this card:
Cardstock: Island Indigo, Pear Pizzaz, Whisper White
Papers: Twitterpated DSP
Stamps: Delightful Dozen
Inks: Island Indigo
Embellishments: Island Indigo ruffled ribbon
Tools: 1 3/8" circle punch, Scallop circle punch, 3/16" corner rounder

This is my Twitterpated "sampler" card! The Herringbone technique, which I first learned from a fantastic tutorial by my upline, is one of my absolute favourite techniques - and it a great one to use if you want to showcase a lot of designer series papers all at once :)

After I had assembled most of the card, I decided I wanted to change one of the papers I had used in the herringbone pattern, so instead of gluing over top, I popped up the new pieces on some dimensionals. It ended up creating a perfect little 'nook' for my sentiment.

Until next time - Happy stamping!

A little flirty

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

This week at the ColourQ, they challenged us to use the colours Pretty in Pink, Going Gray, Melon Mambo and Pumpkin Pie. These colours go so well with each other! How do I know? Because almost all of them are found in the designers series paper "Flirtatious"! It's one of my favs, not only because of the copious amounts of pink involved, but also because of the two fantastic sheets of laser-cut doily sheets included (in both Melon Mambo and Pumpkin Pie).

Instead of using the sheet as a layer, I simply cut out one of the doilies and used it behind the rosette as an extra little splash of something special ;)

Btw, I'm resisting the urge to quote all my favourite lines from Legally Blonde.

Wish Big

The flirtatious suite is perfect for those projects where you really want to have an overtly feminine feel to it, but it also includes some more subtle papers that are perfect for baby girl projects or Mother's Day!

Materials for this card:
Cardstock: Pretty in Pink, Whisper White, Basic Gray
Paper: Flirtatious DSP
Stamps: Short & Sweet, Mixed Bunch (centre of rosette)
Inks: Basic Gray
Embellishments: Rhinestones
Tools: 3/16" Corner rounder, Decorative label punch, 3/4" circle punch

It's been a cold day here (at least compared to the kind of weather we've been having lately), and I'm about to curl up on the couch with a blanket and read a good book watch some Seinfeld ;)

Until next time - Happy stamping! :)

P.S. Christmas is over, but the gift giving isn't! Head on over to my Facebook page and become a fan ("like" the page). Once we hit 50 fans, I'll be doing a draw and the winner will be getting something special from me!

FMS Perfect Princess!

Hooray! The card I submitted to the Freshly Made Sketches challenge was picked for one of the "Perfect Princess" winners! Thank you, Linda!

I had a really great time making this Valentine's card - Despite my best efforts to think outside the box and be 'one' with trends, I have a really hard time putting red and pink together on a card, which so many Valentine's Day cards do. So, I decided to go in a completely different direction.

With that in mind, and with the fabulous sketch from Freshly Made Sketches in hand, I create this card:

I hate to give away too many surprises, but this is one of the cards we will be making at my card class on January 29th, so I'm very excited to be getting such positive feedback on it!

Until next time - Happy stamping :)

A soft palette

As I was browsing though the new Occasions Mini, I came to a page that I had earmarked for future CASEing. If you're ever stuck for ideas, either colour combinations or sketches/layouts, why not open up your catalogue? It isn't called the "Idea Book & Catalog" for nothing :)

I'm constantly inspired by the cards in the catalogues and minis, even if I don't have the exact same supplies - necessity is the mother of invention, afterall! And if you need to make a card (which I so often do!), then you'll find something that works for you.

For this butterfly card, I used the colours from the Play Date Cafe challenge. I interpreted them as Very Vanilla, Certainly Celery and Pool Party.

thank you so, so much.

To make the butterfly, I stamped the flower from Mixed Bunch from the Occasions Mini on Very Vanilla cardstock with Pool Party ink and punched it out with the Blossom punch. I cut out two sections of two 'petals'. I then did the same thing with plain Pool Party cardstock. The body of the butterfly is made using the Jewelry Tag punch that I trimmed to a point. the antennae are just strips of pool party that were cut and curled.

Although it may be difficult to see from the photo, I added some faint texture around the sentiment using the Simply Scored scoring board. Here's a close look.

It's my mother-in-law's birthday today, and I have the flu :( I had to miss out on seeing her, and now have to wait another 364 days before I get to wish her a happy birthday in person!

Materials used for the card:
Cardstock: Certainly Celery, Pool Party, Very Vanilla
Stamps: Mixed Bunch, Delightful Doze
Inks: Pool Party
Tools: Blossom punch, Jewelry Tag punch, Square punch, Scoring Board

Although it's not too cold here right now, this card makes me reminisce about much, much warmer times!

Until next time - Happy Stamping!

I dig you!

Well happy birthday indeed! It's my birthday month as well, so as usual, the Friday Mashup challenge is very fitting! I had a wonderful time last month with the Friday Mashup as a guest designer! This month, there are two new designers, and I'm back to playing along :)

The mashup this week was one which I unfortunately could not mash. I have yet to delve into the world of pastels, but I think I might  very soon!

So here is the "Mashup" Challenge :
  1. Make a "Birthday" project.
  2. Or Make a project using "Pastels/Chalks or Pastel Colors".
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a "Birthday project using Pastels"
Of course, I was not going to let that stop me from participating, so I made just a plain ol' birthday card :) I did want to add something a little extra, so I did some heat embossing on it (The excavator and the sentiment).

Happy Dirtday!
(FM40)

When I first got this set, I knew that I wanted to try and make it 'interactive', so I added some brads to the arms of the excavator and left them free from the card. In all honesty, I forgot the main piece of the arm, so only two parts of it move :P I taped the brads down on the back of the middle piece so that when the bucket was moved, the brads didn't twist and show. Then I popped up the excavator on dimensionals so you'd have free range to move as much as you'd like! I suspect my kiddo is going to get a kick out of this.

Materials used:
Cardstock: Basic Black, Marina Mist, Whisper White

Stamps: I Dig You
Ink: Basic Black, Marina Mist, More Mustard
Embellishments: Mini brads, White bakers twine
Tools: Clear embossing powder, heat tool, Oval punch, Scallap oval punch

This set reminds me of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and their digging song: "we dig, dig, dig, dig, dig, dig, dig in a mine the whole day through..."

Until next time - Happy Stamping :)

-Tara

Fashionable Hearts

I've surprised myself this year by thinking of Valentine's Day already, but how can I not when this adorable Fashionable Hearts embosslits die from the Occasions Mini is staring you in the face each day?! It cuts and embosses all at once - way to multi-task, little embosslit!

This week's sketch challenge at Freshly Made Sketches is irresistible! I love symmetrical designs, but sometimes I tend to be asymmetrical in my symmetry ;) Here's the sketch:

And here is my Valentine's card:
Be My Valentine

Materials used:
Cardstock: Lucky Limeade, Very Vanilla
Paper: Gorgeous DSP from the upcoming Sale-a-Bration event!
Stamps: Delightful Dozen
Inks: Lucky Limeade, Versamark
Embellishments: Ribbon from the upcoming Sale-a-Bration event
Tools: Clear embossing powder, heat tool, Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder, Big Shot, 3/16" corner rounder, Fashionable Hearts embosslit die

You may have noticed that I've been using a lot of items from Sale-a-Bration. I assure you, you're going to love it! It's got some great papers and accessories, and the stamp sets are fresh and simply delightful. Mark January 24th on your calendar and come check out some of the samples I'm going to have to show you!

Until next time - Happy Stamping :)

Happy New Year!

Ok... so I'm a bit late with my "New Year" greeting! But I do sincerely hope that each of you ended 2011 on a high note that will last you well into 2012!

In my last post, I mentioned how instead of a New Year's resolution to change something, I've decided to make a list of the things I am happy with now, and continue to put effort and love into those things. I think that if you're going to change something in your life, you aren't going to wait for New Year's to do it - and if you do wait for New Year's to do it, it might not have been that important in the first place.

Before I get to my list though, I have a little something to show you! Yesterday was a glorious day for me - Not only was it my birthday, but the 2012 Occasions Mini went live!! I would give you all a minute to rejoice, but since I'm a day late in my announcement, many of you have already been rejoicing! In which case, I'll give you a minute to keep rejoicing... Ready? Ok...

The challenge over at Pals Paper Arts this week was a lovely monochromatic colour palette, which I really dig.

Sadly, I thought I was supposed to be working with Night of Navy, when in fact Not Quite Navy was the colour of choice. Obviously, I was 'not quite' thinking!

Nevertheless, I bring you the following!
Thank You
 (PPA126)

I so desperately needed to make a card featuring some of the gorgeous new products from the Occasions Mini! Framelits, ribbon, stamp sets... yum!

Let me get onto the rest of this New Year's thing before I write anything else. I'm rather verbose, and we could be here all day...

2011 Awesomeness that's going to continue in 2012 (AKA - The things I won't change):
  1. Our family dynamic: I don't know how it happened, but we have something amazing going on here! The birth of our son Jackson in September has only added to the warmth and comfort of this home. Our oldest son, Hunter, is incredible with him, and it brings us such joy to watch them.
  2. My love of stamping and giving myself the time to do it: I don't know what I'd do without stamping. As soon as I have some free time (read: naptime), I slip away to my little corner and get lost in colour. It's a therapy beyond any other I've come across thus far in my 28... wait... 29 (!!) years.
  3. "Pizza Night": For those of you who have made a resolution to become healthier this year, I applaud you. Realistically, I should have done the same. And I will get to very soon ;) But no matter how many vegetables I vow to eat, and how much exercise I commit to doing, I will not give up this little gem. It pleases me.
  4. Sending cards "just because": Having a mother out of town gives me a great excuse to mail "just because" cards. How many have I sent, you ask? 1. Maybe 2... Not acceptable! We are going to one a month this year. Mom, if you're reading this, we'll mail them on the 15th of each month ;)
  5. Our TV-free home: We donated our TV to the Salvation Army awhile ago. Not because we think they're evil, or we have anything against them, we just don't have enough room in our family living space to accommodate one! That, and we could never find anything to watch anyways. Some people think we're crazy and ask what we do in our spare time. Turns out, we have very little of that anyways :P Do I ever miss it? Of course! Particularly Bob Ross reruns and Divine Design.
See, told you I was verbose ;)

How about one more sneak peek from the Occasions Mini and Sale-a-Bration which is coming up so soon! Those gorgeous brads, that irresistibly vintage paper, and the oh-so-delicate ribbon are all from the sale-a-bration event. Excited?!

Until next time - Happy Stamping! :)

-Tara
