This week at The Friday Mashup, Lisa is our host and is challenging us to create a shaker card with an animal. I love shaker cards!

My "animal" is the sweet little red cardinal sitting on the tree.

More digital Christmas cards for Colour Me...!

Yes, Christmas card-making is in full swing here at the Bourgoin residence. I can't stop myself!

For this week's Colour Me...! challenge (Marina Mist, Tangelo Twist, Very Vanilla and Pink Pirouette), I whipped up another digital card. I'll be printing these off next month, so I want to get as many done as I can :)

This time around I went with a "winter" theme instead of Christmas.

Bokeh technique for The Friday Mashup!

Over at The Friday Mashup, Holly has a super fun technique for us. I had never seen it before, and it looks super cool. Be sure to stop by and check out what the rest of the Design Team did - all fabulous!

I started with a piece of watercolour paper and did a wash of Night of Navy, Marina Mist and Soft Sky. In hindsight, Soft Sky may have been to light for this technique, but it was all a big learning process! Next, I made myself a mask using different sized circle punch cut outs. I sponged white Craft ink.

The cute little houses are from the new Holiday catty, which is going live very, very soon (I promise)! There are so many amazing goodies in there that I don't even know what to do with them all.

The second part of the mashup challenge was to use die cuts. I thought I had ordered the bundle for this fab stamp set, but when I search my box (and then my order slip, and then the actual order) I realized I hadn't. So let's pretend the houses were die cut, because they could have been ;)

Colour Me... Christmas-y!

Well, I did it... I started my digital Christmas cards! I make a lot of traditional paper Christmas cards by mailing time, but it's also nice to have some digital ones printed out just in case. You never know what kind of Christmas card emergency might pop up!

The background is the Decorative Dots 'embossing folder' in Crisp Cantaloupe. I love it embossing folder form, and I love it in digital form as a soft background. It felt like falling snow! For the main panel, I knew I wanted to go for an ombre effect... to give the illusion of snow building up on the ground (I'm sorry, I can't believe I'm talking like this in the middle of summer). The ombre was done in Calypso Coral, starting at the bottom with the first panel being 100% opacity and each one after that I would drop the opacity by 15%.

More photos of the boys for Colour Me...!

This week at Colour Me...! we are going striking and using Tangelo Twist and Tempting Turquoise.

I told you last post that I had some more photos from the boys' session that I was saving for something a little more 'structured'. I wanted to have something simple, but playful that they could have in their room (which they share). Their walls are orange and they have blue accents throughout so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to create something for them.

Brothers for MDS Monday!

This week at MDS Monday Joan has a great sketch for us. It came just in time, as we had a quick photo session with our boys this past weekend and I needed something perfect for a starting point.

I used mostly the Seriously Teen kit for this page. I loved the colours and fun elements. Once I finished, I found that the page felt a bit lopsided, so instead of a full white background, I added a layer of DSP and then another layer of White with a ripped edge. Very happy with how it turned out!

Here are some of the other photos from the session. For these ones, I plan to do a page that is a little more 'structured'. The ones with the brick background seemed to call for a more grunge-y feel!

Monochromatic week at Colour Me...!

This week at Colour Me...! we are going monochromatic and using Pistachio Pudding (love it!)

This card had a lot of little details, but I had such a fun time making it. I wanted to try and mimic the DSP in the background, so I stamped the fun starburst stamp from Kinda Eclectic on Gold Foil paper and then embossed with White embossing powder. I didn't want to the burst to be dead-on, so I punched it out using the new 2" circle punch a little to the left of the centre. I layered this on another 2" circle punched out in Whisper White, similar to the layers of circles in the paper. 

The chevrons down the left are punched from Gold Foil paper with the Chevron punch. A few scattering of sequins and loops of thick baker's twine and we were good to go!

Baby welcome for Colour Me!

Challenge #31 for Colour Me...! was one of those rare challenge that only happen when we get a month with 5 weeks in them. We decided to do something a little different this time around and give you the option of which colour combo to play along with. The Design Team was split into two teams; Team Hayley (yellows and pink) and Team Tara (blues and green).

I made a card for my SIL's baby shower:

The background was made by cutting various strips of Core'dinations paper in Soft Sky, Garden Green and Night of Navy. Those sweet little stars and button are from the new Little Pieces embosslit.

Pompoms and Punch Art!

Friday Mashup challenge #171 was hosted by Avery and it was such a fun challenge!

I made this cake topper for my sweet niece's 2nd birthday. The Carebears (Cheer Bear and Wish Bear) seemed very fitting for a birthday!

To make the bears:

• Head = Fancy Flower punch, trimmed
• Face/Ears = 1/2" circle punch
• Belly = 1-1/4" and 1-3/4" circle punches
• Feet = 3/4" circle punch, new Heart punch
• Arms = Large Oval punch

Once each piece was punched out, I shaded around all parts with their respective colours (Strawberry Slush and Coastal Cabana). Cheer Bears belly was made by punching out a Large oval and then raising the punch about 1/8" and punching again, to give a small arch. I used Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Gumball Green, Pacific Point, Island Indigo and Rich Razzleberry. For Wish Bear the star trail was made the same was (with the Large oval punch) using So Saffron, Daffodil Delight and Hello Honey. 

The pompoms were made with the new Thick Baker's Twine in Strawberry Slush and Coastal Cabana. These were "fun" to make.

A new (to me!) technique for The Friday Mashup!

I first want to apologize for the lack of posting lately! As mentioned in my previous post, we went through a very big project of replacing all the flooring on the main level of our house. It took over a week, but we are SO thrilled with the results! Our fabulous cousin and so many other great folks in our lives all pitched in to help. Now our house smells like IKEA when you walk in (the showroom part or IKEA, not the food court part).

Anyway, I'm getting all caught up on posts that I have missed during the kerfuffle.
